Along came April showers and bore this wildflower
I’d rather be a weed empowered than a damsel in a tower
Looking into a pasture, green, missing all the red and pink
How plain fields would be if flowers didn’t grow free
How boring life would be if you caged girls like me
If you cornered me and clipped my wings and clamped my beak each time I sing

If birds weren’t in the sky, would we have dreamt to fly?
What’s it take to inspire each one of you and I?
To make us open up our eyes?
They say it’s chance when lightning strikes, but even when it happens twice?

Why don’t we change, if we know how butterflies are made?
We can sit; we can stay
Or we can make our own way
Don’t we stoke ash kindling to watch it burst into flame?
Do more than break a leg; rise up, wings spread
Jesus rose from the dead, so come on, go ahead
Why don’t we take a chance if our lives will be enhanced?

If birds weren’t in the sky, would we have dreamt to fly?
What’s it take to inspire each one of you and I?
To make us open up our eyes?
They say it’s chance when lightning strikes, but even when it happens twice?

If we listen to who puts us down, can the true you come around?
When they say to shut our mouths
And we just want to scream and shout
Feel the hot air, then shut it out
Don’t let nonbelievers bring you doubt
How much darker would it be out, if moonbeams never broke through clouds?
Think about the journey, tie down the mast
Keep eyes on land despite sailing so fast
When they say nothing lasts, ask why waves come back when they crash

If birds weren’t in the sky, would we have dreamt to fly?
What’s it take to inspire each one of you and I?
To make us open up our eyes?
They say it’s chance when lightning strikes, but even when it happens twice?
When they’ve got you feeling sour, remember wildflowers are weeds empowered
